A scherzo in classical music is a song form that employs fast tempos, jovial sound characteristics, and a triple meter like 3/4 time. Goldfinches are described as active and acrobatic birds, balancing on seed heads and bouncing along in flight. Goldfinch Scherzo is part of a series celebrating the life of birds that frequent our garden feeders. The chickadee, nuthatch and goldfinch are familiar and beloved species for most of us in the Western States. In honor of the joy this twinged-trio brings through their songs and playful antics, I’ve given each a musical title.
