Common black-crowned night herons are often inconspicuous because they are active at nightfall. If your eyes are sharp, however, you may spot this stocky wading bird as it hunts small fish and rodents, frogs and aquatic insects along the shoreline. It was just such a scene that inspired me to create this piece. I initially sculpted the work "live" at the Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale in Cody, Wyoming.
